Today, as part of the orientation for my summer tutoring job, I was shown this video. I think it has some interesting ideas, and certainly some underlying implications for education--teaching, learning, and curriculum (for both secondary and higher education). I thought I'd post it to see what you all think. After all, I think we all are deeply invested in thinking about education (individual and institutional) from many different angles.

That was a really neat video--well planned, well made and entirely fascinating. Taking what you saw into consideration, do you have plans to augment how you teach? Or are you going to plow ahead as is?
I try to take this sort of issue into account--unfortunately, it's difficult to implement a fully multimedia approach all the time. One example of how I try to appeal to multimedia minds (though on a limited scale) is to assign movies for final unit in a semester of composition focused on fairy tales (e.g. Pan's Labyrinth, Lady in the Water, Spirited Away), asking students how movies interact with fairy tale tradition. Sometimes try to pull in internet use, if classroom has the capability. Other times, I appeal wholly to student interaction & discussion--which is often more engaging than lectures.
Always trying to figure out how to do more to work with these issues, though.

This is a really great video, and an example of it's own message. You think anyone watching is wishing we could just see the guy talking, standing at a podium? Nope, the drawings are keeping up listening. Thanks also for the suggestion of your friend's book. I'm always fascinated at how different southern Italy is than the rest of Europe. And these factors are some of the things feeding into the current economic collapse of the Euro. Greeks, Spaniards, Italians -- they consider time and money having a different value than northerners. I'm not an educator, but I still think this is still really interesting stuff.
